Collection: Matsumoto Hoji

Matsumoto Hoji (active c. 1780–1800) was a Japanese artist from the Edo period particularly known for his Zen-inspired ink paintings and woodblock prints featuring frogs and toads. He worked in the tradition of zenga painting and ukiyo-e, and his works combine minimalist brushstrokes with a playful, poetic approach to nature motifs. His most famous motifs – such as Toad or Bullfrog – often depict frogs with a lively character and simple, yet expressive composition.
